On Easy Names: 1st Grade

Mrs. O,

Thank you for having such an easy name to say. I know that seems so trivial, so minuscule, a thing to thank you for, but I was a young girl in a new country learning that the way I spoke the language I had known my whole life was wrong. If someone had asked me in South Africa if I knew English I would have said yes. But once I landed on US soil, here I had to say no. Because suddenly the language that made the most sense to me, turned from a unified harmony of sounds to a cacophony of accents that made every word, a puzzle piece I was trying to understand. Thank you for your grace in my few short days in your class.

Thank you,
